Research Technician (NCI)
The In Vivo Evaluation Group, Biological Testing Branch (BTB), Developmental Therapeutics Program (DTP) is establishing both in vitro and in vivo tumor lines from patient biopsies and circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from the Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD) clinical center and various comprehensive cancer centers across the United States with the goal of distributing well validated tumor tissue and in vitro cell cultures as well as DNA, RNA, and protein extracts to researchers worldwide. The group also supports evaluation of samples in various animal models to identify drugs with potential therapeutic value.
The Research Technician will be responsible for:
* Implanting biopsied tumor material and circulating tumor cell material derived from patients into mice, monitoring the mice daily for tumor growth, measuring tumors, updating the patient-derived xenograft (PDX) tracking sheets and coordinating tumor harvests with sample deliveries to various groups for the different analyses that take place
* Logging of experimental data and maintaining proper records which is critical as each patient sample will be passaged and expanded multiple times in NSG mice with the intent to deliver carefully documented samples to researchers worldwide
* Performing drug toxicity studies that will require administration of test agents by multiple routes (IV, IP, PO, SC, osmotic pump) on schedules varying from a single dose to multiple times per day
* Maintaining a proper living environment for test animals
* Tasks are performed independently and initially will involve training and supervision
* The above work is conducted under Biosafety Level-2 conditions
*To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:*
* Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
* No additional experience is required with a Bachelor's degree
* Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance

* Previous animal handling experience
* Knowledge of basic necropsy techniques
