SUMMARY





This position provides a strategic direction for materials related activities within the assigned areas. Responsible for guiding, controlling and maintaining inventory processes and material flow in the area assigned in a manner consistent with corporate philosophies and objectives. Contributes to problem solving and provides leadership and training on issues related to materials management and inventory control. Coordinates multiple complex materials projects. Serves as functional area representative on special projects as needed. Assumes lead role for Material Specialist I and Material Specialist II and assigns their day-to-day duties / responsibilities accordingly.





ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.





Develop, exercise and enforce transaction controls that yield accurate inventory balances for material stock in area assigned.



+ Responsible for the timely, accurate transaction including issues, returns, adjustments, scrap, DMR, transfers, sales changes, etc.






Responsible for achieving inventory turns and customer flexibility objectives by employing and supporting sound inventory management practices.



+ Control and maintain the phase in/out of engineering changes (E.R.s) that affect material availability in assigned area.


+ Measure, assign and disposition excessive and obsolete inventory


+ Monitor and coordinate the implementation and maintenance of Consumption and other 'Pull' systems in the area assigned to ensure timely replenishment.


+ Oversee vendor-stocked material in the assigned area (i.e., fasteners)






Create, control and measure the schedule for manufactured parts in the area that is assigned.



+ Control and maintain database parameters so planning and execution systems support the production plan with regard to the material flow.


+ Responsible for the release, timely execution and closure of manufacture work orders and ISL (Interplant) orders to satisfy production and service demand.


+ Ensure that due dates are met, the orders are transacted, shipped and received in a timely manner that due dates are changed in light of schedule and sales changes.


+ Responsible for tracking shortages and ensuring material availability to support due dates.


+ Responsible for scheduling sublet items and may communicate directly with suppliers as necessary.


+ Authorize sales changes according to material availability.


+ Coordinate phase in/out related to in/outsourcing activity.






Provide guidance and leadership on materials and inventory issues on the shop floor.



+ Responsible for training people in assigned area on materials and inventory processes and systems to enhance functionality.


+ Identify opportunities, research, develop alternative solutions, work with resources to resolve, communicate as necessary and follow up to ensure resolution; specifically regarding inaccurate bills of materials, causes of shortages, space constraints, frequency of delivery, appropriate packaging, other process & systems issues.






REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS (SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY)





This position reports to: as assigned.





Serves as a "lead" and trainer to Material Specialist I and Material Specialist II positions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


Required:



+ Associates degree required


+ 5+ years of related experience






CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS





Certification in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) or comparable inventory management education is preferable.





OTHER SKILLS






+ Ability to read and interpret blueprints.







+ Adept in using P.C.s and MAPICS to enter, obtain and organize data.







+ Ability to read bills of material and interpret requirements plan.







+ Familiarity with the effective use of MRP II and Pull systems.







+ Demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks and delegate tasks / assignments to others.







+ Ability to manage project deadlines.







+ Ability to negotiate and demonstrate good conflict and problem resolution skills.







+ Understand and meet expectations of "internal customer concept."
